The Labour Welfare Department, Govt. of Assam on June 17, 2026, notified regarding the revision of Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) under Minimum Wages w.e.f. January 1, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• The Government has notified the revision of Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) payable to employees engaged in various scheduled employments under the Minimum Wages framework, effective January 1, 2026. The revision follows a 2.63% increase in the average All India Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW) for the period June–December 2025 over the previous reference period and is based on 100% neutralisation of the rise in the CPI. The revised VDA applies uniformly across a wide range of scheduled employments, including manufacturing industries, shops and commercial establishments, hotels and restaurants, hospitals, transport, agriculture, plantations, construction, engineering, public utilities, and other notified sectors.
• Under the revised rates, the minimum monthly wages, inclusive of VDA, have been increased to ₹10,543.39 for unskilled workers, ₹12,257.43 for semi-skilled/unskilled supervisory workers, ₹15,322.74 for skilled/clerical workers, and ₹19,709.98 for highly skilled workers, corresponding to daily wages of ₹405.52, ₹471.44, ₹589.34, and ₹758.08, respectively.
• The notification supersedes the VDA rates notified on 13 February 2026, while maintaining a uniform effective date of January 1, 2026 across all scheduled employments.
